The growth habit and characteristics and geographic location of this specimen do not fit with X. australis. X. australis does not even occur in the Canberra region. This plants appears subterranean-branched with more than a single crown, and the flower scape is too long in relation to the spike. The geographic region and morphology is clearly X. concava.
Thanks for your comments Rob, Yes there were at least 4 plants in the colony and no there weren't any other flowers, the had finished flowering. The lack of spots is what made me decide to post this sighting, the photos aren't very good as I was on a bush walk with others and unable to spend the time to make better study. If I can, I shall return to the area again but expect it may need to be next flowering season to be of benefit. Thanks again Amanda
